Jonas Metals Software: Stand B62 at UK Metals Expo
The metals industry is changing quickly. So are the demands being placed on the systems that support it.
Volatile material prices, margin pressure, changing regulation, increasingly complex supply chains and the rapid emergence of AI are creating both challenges and opportunities for metals businesses.
At UK Metals Expo 2026, NEC Birmingham, on 4–5 November, Jonas Metals Software will be on Stand B62, demonstrating how specialist ERP, better access to data, Business Intelligence, mobile technology and AI can help metals businesses respond.
Our theme for this year's Expo is simple:
Better, Faster Decisions in an Uncertain World.
ERP built around the metals industry
ERP remains at the heart of what we do.
For more than 30 years, Jonas Metals Software has developed business systems specifically for metal stockholders, service centres, processors, traders and distributors.
At the Expo we'll be demonstrating both of our ERP platforms.
iMetal is our enterprise ERP solution for complex metals organisations, supporting multi-site and multi-company operations across sales, purchasing, inventory, processing, traceability and logistics.
Prof.IT provides growing metals businesses with a modern, flexible ERP platform designed around the same fundamental principle: metals businesses shouldn't have to adapt generic software to fit the way their industry works.
That metals specialism becomes increasingly important as the amount of information businesses need to capture, understand and act upon continues to grow.
From ERP data to better decisions
A modern ERP system does much more than process transactions.
Every quotation, order, purchase, stock movement, processing operation and delivery creates information about what is happening within the business.
The challenge is turning that information into something useful.
At the Expo we'll introduce visitors to Jonas Intelligence – our developing approach to making operational and financial information easier to access, analyse and distribute.
Reporting, dashboards and self-service analysis can give people much greater visibility of what's happening within their business. Information can be distributed automatically, combined with data from other systems and made available to other applications.
And increasingly, trusted business data provides the foundation for something else.
AI.
Practical AI for metals businesses
There is enormous interest in what Artificial Intelligence could mean for business.
Our focus is on practical applications.
We're already working on a number of AI initiatives designed around real metals-industry challenges.
AI Goods Inwards explores how AI can reduce manual administration by interpreting incoming documentation and helping capture information accurately at the point material enters the business.
Margin Protection looks at how the information held within the ERP can help identify commercial decisions and transactions that may require attention before margin is lost.
And Natural Language Inquiry explores a very different way of accessing business information – allowing someone to ask a question in everyday language rather than needing to know which report to run or where particular information is stored.
These are individual projects, but collectively they point towards something much bigger.
The ERP system contains an extraordinary amount of business knowledge. Making that information accessible to people, Business Intelligence, connected applications and AI creates new opportunities to use it.
Taking ERP to the point of activity
Good decisions also depend upon good information.
That's why we'll also be demonstrating Blade, our mobile technology for iMetal.
Blade takes ERP functionality into the warehouse, yard and operational areas, using mobile devices and barcode technology to capture transactions where the work actually happens.
Stock movements, inventory counts, picking, loading and other activities can be captured directly rather than recorded on paper and entered into the system later.
That improves speed, but more importantly it improves accuracy and confidence in the underlying data.
And that matters because reporting, Business Intelligence and AI are only as useful as the information beneath them.
CBAM: a practical example of why specialist ERP matters
The introduction of UK CBAM on 1 January 2027 provides a very current example of the changing demands being placed on metals businesses and their systems.
CBAM isn't what Jonas Metals Software does.
We are metals ERP specialists.
But when regulation changes the information our customers need to capture, retain and report, our software needs to respond.
That's why we're working with carbon and cost management specialists Auditel as we prepare our customers and iMetal for UK CBAM.
Rather than treating CBAM simply as a report that needs to be produced at the end of a period, our work has looked at how material and information move through a metals business – purchasing, import, goods inwards, inventory, processing, traceability and despatch.
Much of the foundation already exists within ERP: commodity codes, country of origin, mill information, cast-level traceability and supporting documentation.
The challenge is understanding what additional information will be required, where it should be captured and how it should remain associated with material as it moves through the business.
It is a good example of why deep industry knowledge still matters in ERP.
Talk to a CBAM specialist at the Expo
Auditel will be joining us on Stand B62, and we're offering visitors the opportunity to book a free 15-minute introduction with a CBAM specialist.
It's an opportunity to ask questions about UK CBAM, discuss your current position and understand some of the practical steps your business may need to consider before January.

Thinking about changing your ERP?
The Expo is also an opportunity to have a very different conversation.
If you're reviewing your current business system, struggling with a generic ERP platform or simply interested in seeing what's now possible with modern metals technology, we'd be delighted to talk.
We'll be demonstrating iMetal, Prof.IT, Blade, Jonas Intelligence and our developing AI capabilities, and we can tailor a demonstration or discussion around the requirements of your business.

Come and see what's next
We believe the role of ERP is evolving.
It remains the operational backbone of the business – managing customers, sales, purchasing, inventory, processing, logistics and the thousands of transactions that keep a metals operation moving.
But it is increasingly also the trusted data foundation for Business Intelligence, integration, automation and AI.
That's the story we'll be bringing to UK Metals Expo 2026.
ERP. Data. Intelligence. AI.
All built around an industry we've worked with for more than three decades.
And all focused on one objective:
Helping metals businesses make Better, Faster Decisions.
